My Final Opinion of Nuance Dragon Naturally Speaking 15
Dragon Naturally Speaking is a great system. I have used it off and on since version 12.0 and would love to see a copy of version 15.0 under my Christmas tree. I have seen people like a friend of mine who has Cerebral Palsy who have changed their lives using this software and have used mine due to poor eyesight and a couple of finger injuries.
Not joking, people have benefited from its use breaking arms, losing limbs, through disabilities and have been able to join or return to the workforce because of these powerful tools from Nuance. I would proudly recommend the software to anyone and am a proud owner of Nuance products.

Amazon Customer Feedback
Jean V Says
The voice recognition part is great — very accurate. However, be careful regarding the version you choose. More expensive does not necessarily mean more features. I got the more expensive home version 15 only to find I could not create commands. I do technical writing in LaTex, and commands are a must-have featured. There is no way to return and upgrade to the version I need. I just wasted $150. Rare for Amazon, but I am not a happy customer right now.
This just in … While Amazon was no help, I did contact Nuance customer support directly and they were GREAT! They took care of getting me an upgrade.
Don V. Brenneman Had this to say
I bought my Dragon 15 while in the hospital for two weeks because of a neurological attack that cost me my ability to touch type. Actually, I can still type with my fingers, but 300 words took me more than three hours in the hospital. Unfortunately, when my software arrived, I could not use it because in the hospital it picked up conversations throughout my room and even into the corridor. If there is a way to adjust the sensitivity, it certainly wasn’t obvious to me.
Now I’m at home, and I still can’t type most of the time. I’m getting better and I can probably type faster than I was at the beginning. But now, I’m really clear that you can’t just buy this amazing new (to me) tool and have it works as fast as typing. So until today, I used it only for emails, because it was really clear that I needed lots of practice before venturing into something important and challenging.
Today was the first day that I tried it with my novel. I think that I want to write a lot of the things that I write for the novel into the dictation box or the Dragon pad that comes with the software so that I don’t accidentally wreck something. There have already been placed in which I had to first copy the new stuff that I had written into another document filed, then undo my last major edits to return it to its original quality, and finally to paste the new stuff I had written into that older document.
I can certainly understand the frustration that has led to some negative reviews that I’ve read, but I also understand that I have a powerful tool at my disposal now that I would never have bought before my neurological losses. If this medical problem disappears through a miracle or through treatment, I believe that I will never stop using Dragon and go back to the keyboard.
Part of the problem for me is whether I feel confident and safe challenging my Dragon in new ways.
For example, if I make a tiny mistake in my computer programming, it may cost me many hours of work to discover where the mistake has occurred. But two days ago, I was afraid to use it for my novel, and now I’m using it on just that. This tells me that I will also find a way to write computer code without destroying what’s already functioning very well. Expect to take time learning it.
I highly recommend the product, but I do not recommend it to people who are too impatient to do the work that any powerful new technology will always require of use. It’s very powerful, but do not buy it if you don’t have the patience to learn it.
